Close Your Eyes and Visualise

Virtually all memory strategies rely on visually recreating things and places in your mind. Learning to visualize things is a cornerstone of a powerful memory.

Try your hand at drawing. It's a great way to increase your ability to visualize. Even if you think you're bad at drawing, you can soon improve through practice. Anyway, the aim is not to become the next da Vinci, but to increase your awareness of your visual sense. Start by placing an object in front of you, look at it and absorb as many details as you can. Then look away and try yo sketch it. Then look back and compare your sketch with the object; note any details you missed.

When the ideas are more abstract and require some imagination applied before they can be translated into something more tangible.

"Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world."
Albert Einstein

Your visual images don't have to be photo realistic. Often this is an unachievable goal for most of us, anyway. As long as you can bring the general concept of what the thing looks like to mind, that will be good enough.
